Joe Calzaghe - World Champion

Joe Calzaghe confirmed his status as the best super-middleweight in the world - and arguably of all time - as he defeated Mikkel Kessler in front of a partisan crowd at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff.

Calzaghe added the Dane's WBA and WBC titles to his own WBO crown, in the process making the 21st successful defence of a title he won 10 years ago, and cementing the legacy he had begun to build with his incredible dismantling of Jeff Lacy 18 months ago.

The Welshman has now held WBC, IBF, WBA and WBO world titles within the space of 12 months, something that not even Lennox Lewis could lay claim to.

Without a doubt the best super-middleweight in the world, promoter Frank Warren says this victory leaves him at the top of the pile when it comes to pound for pound fighters as well.
